The overarching aim of this introductory activity is to spark curiosity and gather essential aural experience. Im Bim Babaró introduces a fun ‘nonsense’ phrase that includes both rhyme and alliteration followed by three short verses, two in Irish,and one in English. The jaunty melody in simple time is enjoyable for learners to experience from a sensory point of view at this stage.

The aim of this activity is to memorise the lyrics of the second verse of Im Bim Babaró, in preparation for learning the melody.

Learn the Lyrics – Verse 2

The aim of this activity is to memorise the lyrics of the third verse of Im Bim Babaró, in preparation for learning the melody.

Learn the Lyrics – Verse 3

This introductory activity presents a performance of Im Bim Babaró by an ensemble including voice, cello, and guitar in an audio-only form. Without visual stimulation, learners can focus fully on the sonic musical experience of listening. This will be the first time learners will hear the familiar lyrics of Im Bim Babaró married to the melody. The soundtrack commences with an instrumental introduction in 3-time which flows directly into the song in 4-time. At a later stage, learners will discover ways to distinguish between 3-time and 4-time. But for now, just listen and enjoy the sensations this music creates.
